Lincolnshire school volleyball – Nov 2017

In November, 12 teams from four schools traveled to Spalding High School to play in this year’s Lincolnshire South East School Sport Partnership Volleyball.

Many pupils had not played volleyball before and it was great to see how quickly they improved as the day progressed.

All teams played seven matches with pool games in the morning followed by knockouts.  All the children displayed excellent teamwork, passion and respect. Organiser Rupert Gibson, of Agilitas Sports, gave huge thanks to Spalding High School for hosting the event and providing pupils from their Leadership Academy to officiate.

Results: 1st Langtoft A; 2nd Moulton John Harrox B; 3rd Moulton John Harrox A; 4th Langtoft B; 5th Long Sutton C; 6th Spalding Parish C; 7th Long Sutton B; 8th Spalding Parish B; 9th Langtoft C; 10th Moulton John Harrox C; 11th Spalding Parish A; 12th Long Sutton A.

Langtoft qualify for the county finals in April.

East Midlands Volleyball AGM and Awards Night 2017

Volleyball Review – End of Year

Over the summer the EMVA held the Annual General Meeting and awards evening.  As always, the volunteers that make up the committee come together with members of the various clubs across the East Midlands.

Especially important is to celebrate the volleyball achievements from the past 12 months and discuss how to improve and increase volleyball participation across the region.

Junior Volleyball

On top of what local clubs do for their junior players the EMVA has been supporting this with the regional development training squads.

Secondly, the Grand Prix competitions have been instrumental in helping our juniors to be match ready for the Inter-regionals.  The inter-regionals are held annually at the end of indoor season in May.

Beach competition – U18s East Midlands

U18s beach volleyball 2017Obviously, the inaugural Junior 2 vs 2 competition is especially relevant.  Therefore this constitutes another milestone in the junior development program.

Well done to overall winners Emily and Mya.

Finally, a massive thank you to all the coaches and parents that make sure this all happens.

As shown above, with the various opportunities that have been created over the last couple of years there is ever increasing Junior volleyball activity visible across the region.

East Midlands Regional Volleyball League

Most noteworthy, is that a record number of 13 men’s teams entered into the 2016-17 leagues and now there are 7 women’s teams too.  Rules on allowing a limited number of NVL players into Div 1 of both men and women keeps it competitive.  Whereas, allowing men’s 2 division to have mixed sex teams has kept the development league thriving.

East Midlands volleyball on the beach – Summer 2017

In between all the usual summer volleyball tournaments that players can enjoy (Sandbanks, Bridlington, Bristol, Cambridge to name just a few) East midlands players had a couple of events more local to attend and enjoy.

The East Midlands is host to 2 sand courts areas, Loughborough and Kettering and they have been busy.

Kettering is home to the National Volleyball Centre as well as several sand volleyball courts.

They have been holding a regular ‘King of the Beach’ competiton and also held one of the East Mids Junior sessions.

EM beach volleyball 2017 - king and queen

Loughborough University home to Volleyball England head office and 3 sand courts has held another successful weekly evening tournament over the course of summer where players sign up every friday for a chance to play the following Tuesday.  45 players are divided randomly in to 9 teams and then play for points and each individual player carries her/his teams points on to the next week.  This results in a King and Queen of the beach by the final week.  Anyone (16yrs plus) can sign up regardless of where you live or your ability.

For more information visit our Facebook page – EM Beach.

Well done to Luiza Da Silva and Yan Pyter

A number of clubs now have junior sections and more and and more schools are providing volleyball as an after school club.

The East Midlands junior volleyball development squad head coach Ian Clews is always looking for individual players, schools and clubs to contact him and get involved at the various training sessions and competitons across the East Mids through out the year.

This years Volleyball England Junior Inter-Regionals competition took place again over May bank holiday at the National Volleyball Centre in Kettering.

Teams from the East midlands Girls (U14 & U16) and Boys (U15 & U17) junior squads ventured down to compete against the country’s finest junior development programs.

East mids_volleyball_junior_girls_-_Inter_regional_medal_winners_2016-17Girls results from the 2017 Inter Regional Championship, open to the 9 English regions, along with Northern Ireland:

U16s finished 5th following victories against East and London.

U14B finish 5th following victories against South West and London.

U14A finish 2nd, beating London in the semi final before losing to North West in the final.

Unfortunately some of the U14A team had to leave before the medal ceremony, so they’ll be presented with their silver medals at a later date.

The boys teams featured quite a lot of new faces this year and battled well through every match but didnt quite get into the medal positions.

East Midlands ‘Voice’ event announced by Volleyball England

volleyball evalogo
Volleyball England have announced that the East Midlands Volleyball Voice 2016 event has been confirmed.

Date: Wednesday 7th September

Time: 7:00pm – 10:00pm

Venue: SportPark, Loughborough University, Loughborough, LE11 2DY

There is plenty of parking available at SportPark, and the venue is easily accessible via pubic transport. Refreshments will be provided.

The Volleyball Voice is for everybody, and we need your help in attracting as many clubs, coaches, referees and players as possible.

Could I please ask you to begin to promote this through your leagues, clubs and networks? We have put together an agenda based on feedback from our members, including the new Sport England strategy, and funding and marketing workshops. In addition to this, there will be a thirty minute Q&A session to kick off the Volleyball Voice and we would ask you and your club members to please email through your questions to form this discussion.

If you could get back to me by Friday 22nd August with any potential questions and also any attendees confirmed (either yourselves, or other club or association members) that would be fantastic.

I look forward to hearing from you, and hope to see many of your at the Volleyball Voice on the 7th September.

Kind regards,

Hannah
