East Midlands Volleyball AGM and Awards Night 2017

Volleyball Review – End of Year

Over the summer the EMVA held the Annual General Meeting and awards evening.  As always, the volunteers that make up the committee come together with members of the various clubs across the East Midlands.

Especially important is to celebrate the volleyball achievements from the past 12 months and discuss how to improve and increase volleyball participation across the region.

Junior Volleyball

On top of what local clubs do for their junior players the EMVA has been supporting this with the regional development training squads.

Secondly, the Grand Prix competitions have been instrumental in helping our juniors to be match ready for the Inter-regionals.  The inter-regionals are held annually at the end of indoor season in May.

Beach competition – U18s East Midlands

U18s beach volleyball 2017Obviously, the inaugural Junior 2 vs 2 competition is especially relevant.  Therefore this constitutes another milestone in the junior development program.

Well done to overall winners Emily and Mya.

Finally, a massive thank you to all the coaches and parents that make sure this all happens.

As shown above, with the various opportunities that have been created over the last couple of years there is ever increasing Junior volleyball activity visible across the region.

East Midlands Regional Volleyball League

Most noteworthy, is that a record number of 13 men’s teams entered into the 2016-17 leagues and now there are 7 women’s teams too.  Rules on allowing a limited number of NVL players into Div 1 of both men and women keeps it competitive.  Whereas, allowing men’s 2 division to have mixed sex teams has kept the development league thriving.

East Midlands volleyball on the beach – Summer 2017

In between all the usual summer volleyball tournaments that players can enjoy (Sandbanks, Bridlington, Bristol, Cambridge to name just a few) East midlands players had a couple of events more local to attend and enjoy.

The East Midlands is host to 2 sand courts areas, Loughborough and Kettering and they have been busy.

Kettering is home to the National Volleyball Centre as well as several sand volleyball courts.

They have been holding a regular ‘King of the Beach’ competiton and also held one of the East Mids Junior sessions.

EM beach volleyball 2017 - king and queen

Loughborough University home to Volleyball England head office and 3 sand courts has held another successful weekly evening tournament over the course of summer where players sign up every friday for a chance to play the following Tuesday.  45 players are divided randomly in to 9 teams and then play for points and each individual player carries her/his teams points on to the next week.  This results in a King and Queen of the beach by the final week.  Anyone (16yrs plus) can sign up regardless of where you live or your ability.

For more information visit our Facebook page – EM Beach.

Well done to Luiza Da Silva and Yan Pyter

A number of clubs now have junior sections and more and and more schools are providing volleyball as an after school club.

The East Midlands junior volleyball development squad head coach Ian Clews is always looking for individual players, schools and clubs to contact him and get involved at the various training sessions and competitons across the East Mids through out the year.

Lets Play Volleyball event – Leicestershire 26th May 2012

LPV event_-Leicestershire

Since 2009 the East Midlands Let’s Play Volleyball Festival has been hosted in front of a back drop of Lincoln Castle and has attracted hundreds of junior volleyball players from across the five counties of Lincolnshire , Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Northamptonshire. For 2012, the festival is moving further south to Hermitage Leisure Centre and will offer a junior sitting volleyball competition as well as a grass tournament for the first time ever!

Regional Training

Local club coaches and coaches from the East Midlands Regional Talent Development team will be there to offer coaching advice and scout for talented young players in the area. So come along, have some fun playing and talk about how you can get involved more by playing in your County League or finding what you need to do to represent the East Midlands in volleyball or sitting volleyball

Whats Happening?

The day will be jam-packed with volleyball and depending how many teams enter, you could play in anything between and six and ten volleyball matches! When you’re not playing or scoring matches, you will also be able to join in drills and sessions run by the East Midlands top coaches or have a rest in the sunshine and enjoy some food from the BBQ. Bring your friends and family for a fun-filled, volleyball day!

Standing and Sitting Volleyball

Outdoors there will be 10 courts set up for a Grass Volleyball tournament; while indoors there will be 4 x Sitting Volleyball Courts. If you’ve played Volleyball, why not challenge yourself to a faster version of the game and give it a go sitting down. It takes a lot of training to learn how to move efficiently when sitting down and when you throw a volleyball into the mix as well, it will challenge even the most experienced players. Standing or Sitting?…you decide!

Event – Match Rules

All matches will be played to the ‘Let’s Play Volleyball’ rules (see attached) with a focus on fun, competitive volleyball and will provide a great opportunity for any Young Officials to practice their refereeing skills. There will separate competitions for each age group and a separate group for experienced junior players as well, so no matter if you have been playing for a few years or learnt only last week, there will be the right level of competition for you to make sure you have fun!
