East Midlands Volleyball AGM and Awards Night 2017

Volleyball Review – End of Year

Over the summer the EMVA held the Annual General Meeting and awards evening.  As always, the volunteers that make up the committee come together with members of the various clubs across the East Midlands.

Especially important is to celebrate the volleyball achievements from the past 12 months and discuss how to improve and increase volleyball participation across the region.

Junior Volleyball

On top of what local clubs do for their junior players the EMVA has been supporting this with the regional development training squads.

Secondly, the Grand Prix competitions have been instrumental in helping our juniors to be match ready for the Inter-regionals.  The inter-regionals are held annually at the end of indoor season in May.

Congratulations to all our junior Grand Prix winners.

Beach competition – U18s East Midlands

U18s beach volleyball 2017Obviously, the inaugural Junior 2 vs 2 competition is especially relevant.  Therefore this constitutes another milestone in the junior development program.

Well done to overall winners Emily and Mya.

Finally, a massive thank you to all the coaches and parents that make sure this all happens.

As shown above, with the various opportunities that have been created over the last couple of years there is ever increasing Junior volleyball activity visible across the region.

East Midlands Regional Volleyball League

Most noteworthy, is that a record number of 13 men’s teams entered into the 2016-17 leagues and now there are 7 women’s teams too.  Rules on allowing a limited number of NVL players into Div 1 of both men and women keeps it competitive.  Whereas, allowing men’s 2 division to have mixed sex teams has kept the development league thriving.

Good luck to Nottm Rockets U16’s Team U16 Championships Final

Good luck to Nottm Rockets U16’s Team this Sunday in the National U16 Championships Volleyball Final.

The team have been battling out against all the top Junior club sides in the country and have made excellent progress this year. After coming through the initial rounds fairly comfortably they made their way through to the last 8 which was a first for any Rockets U16’s Team. After a slow start losing to Boswells in their first game they rallied to win the rest of their games to take their place in the semi final.

Coming second in their pool meant they would play against the winners of the other pool Wessex in the semi

final who were favourites for the title. Playing infront of a large crowd inspired the boys and in an amazing game, all of the team played at the top of their abilities to beat Wessex by 2 sets to nil 25 – 20, 25 – 17 to book their place in the final. Headcoach Paul Lamb commented….. “This is a great achievement by our U16 boys,. It is the first time a Rockets Junior side has reached the National Finals and a great reward for their efforts over the years. It is indeed 30 years since any Rocket side made an appearance in a National Final, the Senior men played in the 1982 National Knock Out Cup where they were runners up”

Paul was a member of that Cup side in 82 and he hopes that this Rockets Team including his own son Ieuan can go one better and win the title. There are still tickets available from Volleyball England if anyone wishes to go to Kettering to watch the final. Or live streaming will be available from the VE Website.

Please check the website for further details www.volleyballengland.org

Best of Luck Boys!

Notts Volleyball Association Competition 2012

The NVA will be running the Nottinghamshire Volleyball Association Central Venue Grand Prix starting on Saturday the 18 February 2pm-5pm.
The format will be a Grand Prix style event with league games and knockout stages. From the feedback we have already had we are hoping for a minimum of 6-8 teams with everybody playing as much as possible.
This is an open competition, Men, Women and Juniors are welcome and is aimed at giving beginners and improving players a chance to participate and compete, and therefore the majority of players should be players that haven’t played at Regional or National level.

If you do not have a team but still wish to play please contact us and we will try to place you with a team.

On each date there will be a winner, runner up and 3rd place determined and teams will be rewarded with points for finishing in the top 4 places. These points will then be carried on throughout the competition with the winners of the Grand prix being the team with the most points at the end of the season.

  • 14 April
  • 26 May
