Worksop Volleyball Club 2009

Worksop Volleyball Club are celebrating success at both Senior and Junior level. Worksop Volleyball Club have been in existence for over 20 years, and recently have had the most successful period in the clubs long history. The club are developing well and are now working towards the E.V.A. 123 accreditation. The club offers an outlet for competitive and social volleyball for all ages from 12 upwards and play in the Mens East Midlands Division 1 and the Notts Mixed League.

JUNIORS
This season has seen a determined push to develop the club with a thriving junior section at last having there own session. Having worked closely with Portland school developing young players over recent years, this is the first time that sessions for juniors have been run at an after school session and their own club training session.

Earlier this year a total of 12 players from the Club represented the East Midlands in the Regional Finals Competition at Loughborough University where 450 of England’s most talented young players played competitive matches against each other. This year Northern Ireland and Wales were also taking part. The East Midlands had a successful tournament thanks largely to the stars who have come through the Worksop Volleyball Clubs development programme.

The players to take part from the club were:

Under 17 Boys – Ryan Heath, Josh Stansbury ,Stefan Cowley, Liam Kelly, Liam Gabbitas, Artemis Mita,  Ben Tomlinson

Under 16 Girls – Claire Stevens, Molly Taylor, Pillipa, Lee, Kirsty Smith, Casey Harper

SUMMER TOURNAMENT

In the summer tournament season Worksop Juniors again proved very successful as they took on players from all over the North to win competitions at Whitby, Leeds and Hull. There has been more great news for Ryan Heath as he has not only been chosen as part of the England squad but has also been nominated for a Coaching scholarship with Volleyball England. This is recognition for his own hard work and determination, and for the school and the club for the partnership developing talented young Volleyball players. Congratulations to all! The 2009/10 season is going to be a very exciting season for all the Juniors as they have been entered into the Yorkshire Junior League and the U18’s National Volleyball Championships.

SENIORS

The past few years have proved very successful for the Men’s team who play in Division 1 of the East Midlands League. Some hard training sessions and committed play over recent years has lead them to win the 1st Division twice, and runners up twice. This year the standard of play throughout the league improved considerably with the influx of foreign talent and it has been a transitional year for the team as some of the old hands slowly gave way to the younger players, the team finished in a very creditable third position.

Last summer saw more success for the men as they took part in the Yorkshire Premier Tournament. A gruelling 6 Hours of competition at a very high level at the Gemtec Arena Hull. The tournament highlighted the progression the club have made over recent times as they went through the day unbeaten to win the tournament. The team also enjoyed successes over the summer tournament season with strong showings at Whitby and Cleckheaton and Plate winners in York.

The club train and play matches at Portland School Sparken Hill Worksop Notts S80 2SF on Wednesday evenings 7-10pm
