Volleyball England is delighted to announce that they are running the four-day Level 3 Coaching Course in Kettering during April 2015. The course will be split over two weekends, 11 & 12 April will be held at the Kettering Buccleuch Academy and 25 & 26 April will be held at the National Volleyball Centre. The course is a must for all coaches who are coaching competitive teams and want more technical and tactical understanding of the modern top level game.
One of the confirmed tutors is Craig Handford, who has previously delivered Level 3 courses. Audrey Cooper, Volleyball England’s Director of Technical and Talent said: ‘’Craig is an experienced volleyball coach and tutor. His coaching experiences include junior and senior level clubs as well as the England senior women’s national team. Craig was responsible for the creation and leadership of the England women’s development programme which was based at Loughborough from 1997-2003. It is a privilege to have Craig lead our Level 3 coaching course and to share his knowledge and lessons learned in developing teams at the top of the club and talent pathway.’’
Craig Handford commented: ‘’I am looking forward to tutoring what is Volleyball England’s flagship course. Coaches will come away with a deeper understanding of the technical and tactical components of the game in addition to planning and managing their team’s performance over a season. They will also understand the importance of developing their own coaching philosophy, which is critical in a coach’s development at a higher level.’’ More guest tutors and deliverers will be confirmed over time as we look forward to hosting the course alongside the Super 8’s competition in Kettering. In order to be eligible for the course each candidate must have held a Level 2 award for a minimum of one year and must be a registered coach of Volleyball England.
Among a wide variety of subjects the syllabus will include:
- Training the setter
- Match preparation and scouting
- Building the side-out offence philosophy, rhythm and timing
- Planning for the season
- Transition play: block defence to attack

The East Mids VB AGM is happening Wednesday evening (7pm for a 7.30 start) and the window for applications/nominations for committee posts has closed.
Apart from electing or re-electing committee members and celebrating the 3x league champions and runners up (Women, Men 1 and Men 2) we will be hosting Ian Poynton the Membership and Funding Officer for Volleyball England.
As you may know the Volleyball England AGM will be focusing on the proposal for Individual Registration and have published their proposal in advance of the Volleyball England AGM being held on 26th July in the Sports park building in Loughborough Uni.
Will your club be attending the East mids AGM ? if not do you have questions that we can put to Ian?
Would you like to vote at the VE agm but can’t attend… Ian can carry your proxy vote
One of the reasons you should consider voting ( either yes or no) is the following passage in the proposal
New Club Incentive Scheme
20% of the net Affiliated Club Player registration fees (less fulfilment costs) will go into a central fund that all affiliated clubs (not open to clubs with only NVL teams) will be able to apply to for grants for uses such as junior development, facilities & equipment upgrades and recruitment programmes. This will be new revenue generated by volleyball, managed by volleyball and redistributed to volleyball with no outside third-party controls or restrictions. Specific details of the programme will be confirmed shortly.
I have had confirmation from Volleyball England that a Grade 4 referees course will be held on Sat 4th October (9am -6pm) at Spalding Grammar School, Priory Road, Spalding, Lincs, PE11 2XH (Home of Spalding Saracens VC). We will be in the Gym from 9-12 and the classroom after that. The cost is £50 per head but county volleyball associations (such as Cambridgeshire) have in the past pledged to pay half of the fees for any candidates. Here are directions to the venue:
Candidates must be 16 or over and the course has recently been reduced from 2 days to 1 to encourage participation.
There is a need for higher numbers of quality referees in local leagues, so would everyone please use all avenues open to them to advertise and encourage this course to be filled. It is a fairly central location for many county associations, which should help this.
Any questions, please ask me on firstname.lastname@example.org

The number of volunteers prepared to join in to help develop volleyball across the East Midlands has significantly dwindled over the last 3 years. If you are interested in joining us as a volunteer please get in touch as soon as possible as applications need to be submitted a minimum of 3 days before the AGM for it to be eligible.

Volleyball England is in the privileged position of being the National Governing Body in England for one of the World’s most popular and diverse team sports, giving it a potential market reach that is the envy of many other sports. With the legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, together with our 420 affiliated clubs we have a unique opportunity to raise the profile and capitalise on the growing demand to play volleyball in all its forms during the next four years.
As a valued member currently active in an area we want to specifically work in as part of our 2013-17 Whole Sport Plan we would like to invite you to our engagement event to be held at SportPark, Loughborough University , 3 Oakwood Drive , Loughborough, Leicestershire , LE11 3QF on Wednesday 17th April at 7pm.
The event will be an opportunity for you to understand the plans moving forward and hopefully how these can benefit you and your volleyball activity in the future. It will also be a great chance for us to hear what is going well in the area and understand the issues that are facing grassroots volleyball.
Please reply directly to Alex Henderson on 01509 22 77 32 or at email@example.com with your availability to be part of this event.
The full agenda for the day and the background information we have on the area will be circulated to you in advance of the meeting and all follow up information shortly after the event.
If you are unable to attend the meeting but would like to be informed of developments please let Alex know to ensure you are kept on the local distribution list to receive all pre and post event information.
We would like to thank you in advance for your participation in this event at this particularly exciting time for the future growth and development of volleyball and along with the rest of team I look forward to seeing you on 17th April.
